About Next Steps

Paul Field

Next Steps helps people with depression in Woking, Runnymede and surrounding areas through the provision of depression information, signposting and support. This support includes one-to-one meetings and five individual weekly groups.

The project also helps people with depression to access sport and exercise through weekly walking for health sessions.

The provision of support and information by Next Steps aims to help increase the abilities of people who use the service to better self-manage their own emotional health, and aid prevention of future episodes of ill health through increased knowledge and awareness of self help strategies and wellbeing maintenance.

Next Steps host a weekly Walk for Health in Woking. These walks are part of the national Walking for Health scheme which aims to encourage people of all ages to take part in local walks led by trained volunteers.

It is a joint initiative with Natural England and the British Heart Foundation. The walks last for about an hour, are on fairly flat ground, always finish back at the starting point, and take place every Wednesday (10.45 for a 11.00AM Start), meeting by The Lightbox reception in Woking.
